Somatic Education

The Myth of Aging 4-Week Series: The name of this work is Hanna Somatics, and the title of this session is "the Myth of Aging", it is not the "the aging myth" or "aging is a myth" because aging in and of itself is real. The "myth" we are talking about is the popularly held preconceptions about aging - that as we age we will begin to experience a decline in our ability to physically do what we want to do.

The Hanna Somatic work addresses this popular perception through exercises that:

1.) over time, help you to be more "in touch" with your body, and that gives you the ability to release your own muscular tension
2.) anticipate when your stress is creeping up on you physically
3.)allows you to decrease pain and stiffness in your muscles and joints and be more optimal in everything you do.

Each class in this 4-week session will target specfic areas in your body to get at patterns of musclar contraction that lead to chronic tension and injury. For more information on Hanna Somatics go to the Integrated Soma website. Taught by Katie Gehn.

Individual Somatic Sessions: Chronic pain, limited range of motion, poor posture, and constantly contracted muscles are the by- products of physical trauma, stress, habituatied postures, repetitive motions, injuries; the muscles respond with a loss of conscious voluntary control. These sessions teach you how to release these involuntary muscular contractions.
